WERADIATE LLC JOINS LAUNCH NY’S EMERGING CLEANTECH OPPORTUNITY (ECO) INCUBATOR

Connecting Cleantech with New York State’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act

BUFFALO, NY – WeRadiate LLC announces that it is joining the Emerging Cleantech Opportunity (ECO) Incubator that is part of Launch NY, and one of six New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) cleantech incubators across the state. Launch New York is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit venture development organization that supports and invests in high-growth, high-impact companies and catalyzes the entrepreneurial culture in Upstate New York through pro bono mentoring and access to high-risk capital for high-growth startups as the most active seed fund in New York State.

WeRadiate’s compost monitoring system and technology capture key variables that enable compost facilities and operators to become more effective, efficient, and educated with their processes. WeRadiate technology live-streams data enabling compost professionals to take action to reduce odor and pathogens, increase compost efficiency and comply with statewide regulatory standards. Improving efficiency standards can assist in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by more than 15% at a compost facility, this is equivalent to removing 1,740 vehicles per year with a fifteen percent adoption of existing New York State compost facilities.

“As data and technology become increasingly accessible in the agriculture and compost sector, we must recognize its impact and assist with local solutions for ecological resiliency,” said Sashti Balasundaram, WeRadiate Founder. “WeRadiate technology is a catalyst for innovation supporting efficiencies in the compost sector.”

“Launch NY is excited to have WeRadiate join our growing list of 19 clean-tech companies being supported through ECO Incubator. WeRadiate has worked the past several months with their Launch NY Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) making great progress on their initial prototype and hiring additional full-time employees. We look forward to continuing to support their promising growth through the incubator and other NYSERDA-supported programs,” said Marnie LaVigne, Ph.D., President & CEO of Launch NY and Executive Director of ECO Incubator.

In June 2019 New York State passed the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act to achieve a cleaner and carbon-neutral economy, which includes performance standards for greenhouse gas emissions across a variety of sectors. WeRadiate technology has the ability to assist with this legislation by evaluating the composting process to ensure higher-quality standards at processing facilities. The benefits of compost include soil sequestration of carbon dioxide when compost is added as a soil amendment; natural fertilizer for farms and gardens and an alternative to synthetic fertilizer production which requires fossil fuel use; and heat recovery through renewable energy technology to warm buildings and greenhouses.

“Sashti brings his extensive knowledge of the industry and passion in developing and implementing the WeRadiate system,” said Rich Delmerico, Launch NY and NYSERDA EIR and mentor to WeRadiate. “This system will benefit the environment, creating nutrient-rich soil while also helping to abate the landfill and incineration disposal in the Food Recovery Hierarchy.”
